We are excited to welcome our new Huskies to join the pack over Move-In weekend on August 16 and 17. These dates are exclusively for our new students coming to campus for the first time.
We want to ensure you are prepared and feeling ready for the big move. It is completely okay if you are feeling a bit anxious about this new experience. We encourage you to connect with your roommate now and coordinate what you will be bringing to campus during Move-In!
The information below is designed to give you a realistic idea of what to expect and plan for when moving into your new home-away-from-home. We hope you are excited to embrace this new experience, where you will evolve as an individual, celebrate with your community, and learn to grow through challenges!
Assigned Move In Times for New Students
Move-In Weekend is an exciting and busy time on Michigan Tech's campus!
To assist with the flow of traffic and ensure that you are able to move onto campus as efficiently as possible, every Michigan Tech Husky is assigned an individual move in time, that can be viewed in their HuskyHouse portal. Assigned Move-In times are incredibly beneficial to ensuring all of our Huskies have a positive Move-In day experience and are able to get settled in without unnecessary delays. We know this is a big day for you and we want you to enjoy the moment, which is why we are asking all students to try to arrive during their assigned time. Parents and students have praised this assigned Move-In process over the years as it reduces congestion and ensures all families get the support they need in a timely fashion.
We ask that all new incoming Huskies arrive during their assigned Move-In time to help ensure everyone has an enjoyable Move-In experience!
Move-In Weekend: August 16 and 17 (New Students Only)
You will begin your check in process at the Van Pelt and Opie Library at your assigned Move-In time. There you will receive your room key, Move-In map, temporary parking pass and welcome packet! Your campus map will show you how to get to your assigned hall. Below are links to online interactive maps where you can review your route before you arrive.
If you are bringing multiple vehicles to campus over Move-In weekend, please ensure that all of the vehicles in your convoy first check in at the library before proceeding to your assigned residence hall. Any vehicle that does not have a parking permit will be sent back to the library.
After Checking In... You Move In!
After you check in at the Van Pelt and Opie Library, you are ready to move into your residence hall room! Please ensure you follow the route highlighted on your Move-In map, as traffic patterns over Move-In Weekend will differ from regular routes. When you arrive at your assigned residence hall, Michigan Tech staff and volunteers will be available to help you get your belongings to your room. Please be sure to fill out your temp unloading permit with the following information and leave it on your dashboard before moving into your room:
- Name
- Phone Number
- Room Number
- Time of arrival
While our assigned Move-In time process has greatly improved the flow of Move-In, please be aware that parking is limited around the residence halls and you may still be directed to wait in an overflow parking lot before proceeding to your residence hall.
So You've Moved In, Now What?
Once you have moved your personal belongings into your room, you will be directed to Parking Lot 22, 23 or 24 where you can leave your vehicle and catch the MTU shuttle. Shuttles run every 15 minutes between the Student Development Center and the residence halls and are free for MTU Huskies and their support packs. We encourage you to explore campus, engage with your Husky community and get a feel for campus!
Dining Services Over Move In
On Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17, all students and their guests can enjoy meals in the dining halls for free!
