Stay for Break FormThanksgiving Break in the residence halls starts Saturday, November 23 and lasts through Sunday, December 1. During this time, Dining is unavailable, services will be limited, and offices will be closed during much of the break.
If you will be staying with us during any part of the break (11/23-11/30), please complete the Request to Stay for the Break form no later than November 18 at 4 pm to ensure your Husky Card access remains live.
Starting at 10 am on Saturday, November 23 Residence Education staff will conduct room checks. Facilities staff may enter rooms over break to address maintenance concerns.
Fall Break Departure Checklist
All students must ensure their rooms are prepared before leaving for Thanksgiving Break and should follow these procedures listed below. Staff will be entering all residence hall rooms to make sure windows are closed and conduct maintenance. If you are leaving campus during the break, please ensure you complete the following:
- Remove all recycling, trash, and food that will spoil from your room and place in a sealed bag before moving to the trash container in your hall.
- Please do not leave food in the common shared kitchenettes. Kitchenettes will be cleaned. Unlabeled and undated food that is not actively being used by residents staying for break will be discarded.The kitchenettes will be available for use by students who are staying for the break, but they will be cleaned.
- Turn the heat on in your room to prevent pipes from freezing.
- Unplug all electrical items except refrigerators.
- Close and lock your window. Leave your blinds open.
- Turn off your lights and lock your room door.
Dining Schedule
The last meal plan service will be served on Friday, November 22 in the residence halls. DHH and McNair will close after lunch and Wadsworth Hall will close for dinner at 6 pm.
Wadsworth and McNair dining halls will reopen Sunday, December 1 from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm. The Food Hall at DHH will reopen Monday, December 2 at 7 am.
Bicycles
Please move your bike out of the summer bike racks before you leave for Thanksgiving break. Summer bike racks will be removed during the Thanksgiving Break. Abandoned bikes left in summer bike racks will be removed.
Prior to departure for break, please complete one of the following:
- Take your bike home
- Put it in winter storage with WHSA (Wads), MHA (McNair), or DHC (Douglass Houghton). See details below.
Students may also store their bikes internally during the winter with their hall council. WHSA, MHA, and DHHC will have scheduled times posted to meet with students to place bikes in internal winter storage in Wadsworth, McNair, and Douglass Houghton Hall. Bikes can be retrieved in the spring. There is no fee to store bikes in internal storage for the duration of the winter. All bikes placed in internal storage must be registered with the Department of Public Safety and Police Services before they can be stored inside the building.
Bring your bike to your Hall Council for winter storage on any of the dates listed below:
- DHHC: Nov. 4 at 3:30-5 pm, November 5 and 6 from 4-8 pm

MHA - November 5, 6, and 9 from 3-7 pm

WHSA - November 2, 3, 9 and 10 from 12 pm-5 pm
Parking
We encourage you to leave your car at home if you don’t use it on a regular basis due to the narrowing of parking lots in the winter. If you previously purchased a permit and will no longer need it, the permit can be returned to the Transportation Services office for a partial refund before January 1.
Students who plan to leave their vehicles on campus during the fall break must relocate them to the east side of Commuter Lot 26 (see campus map). Please adhere to the following parking schedule:

Relocate to Lot 26: All vehicles with residential lot permits must be parked in Lot 26 by 4 pm on Friday, November 22. Cones and signage will be in place to guide you to the designated area. If you are leaving campus before this time, please contact the Transportation Services Office to arrange alternate parking accommodations.
- Move Back to Assigned Lot: Vehicles should be returned to their assigned parking areas by 10 pm on Sunday, December 1.
Please note that vehicles left in residential lots during the break will be subject to ticketing or towing at the owner's expense. For more information, contact Transportation Services at parking@mtu.edu.
Students who do have a vehicle and stay over break, can contact Transportation Services for parking instructions.
Front Desks
The reception desks will be closed starting Saturday, November 23 through Saturday, November 30.
Packages and mail will not be delivered, and staff will not be available to search for individual letters or packages that arrive during the break.
Normal operating hours will resume on Sunday, December 1. Packages and mail will not be sorted, and staff will not be available to search for individual letters or packages that arrive during the break. Packages that arrived on or before Saturday, November 23 that have not yet been picked up will also not be available to pick up until Sunday, December 1.
Items will be stored until the staff return on Sunday, December 1 to deliver the mail and packages.
