You should make your decision about whether or not to renew your existing contract before Tuesday, March 11. The window to renew your contract for the 2025-2026 academic year is only open March 11-17. No late submissions will be accepted after March 17 at 12pm.
All Daniell Heights residents, including co-tenants, must be associated with Michigan Tech in one of the following capacities:
- Michigan Tech student
- Michigan Tech Staff member
- Dependent child of a Michigan Tech Student or Staff Member
- Spouse or Domestic Partner of a Michigan Tech Student or Staff Member
You can apply via the yellow HuskyHouse link on our Housing webpage using your Michigan Tech username and password during the open application window. That window will open on Tuesday, March 11 at 12 pm. and will close on Monday, March 17 at 12 pm.
You should still renew your contract during the open application window. Once contract
renewal has closed, there will be an open window for apartment transfer requests in
mid-March. Additional information about apartment transfer opportunities and eligibility
will be sent out soon.
Your current housing contract in Daniell Heights will expire on June 30, 2025, at 12 pm. Residents are responsible for ensuring their keys are returned and the apartment is vacated by that time or you will be assessed four (4) times the daily rate for moving out late.
Situations that qualify you for early release from housing include:
- Graduating at the end of the Fall 2025 semester
- Going on co-op
- Studying abroad
- Accepting an internship
- Transferring/withdrawing
If you do not qualify for any of the above criteria, you can still request an Early Contract Release. Contract Release under any circumstances not listed above is a lengthy process, is not guaranteed, and includes a contract release fee equivalent to one month's rent.
Alternatively, you may be able to Transfer your contract to an existing co-tenant
at the end of the Spring 2025 semester if the co-tenant is a Michigan Tech student
or staff member and has been living in your apartment as a registered co-tenant for
at least four months at the time of the takeover.
Yes, regardless of where you will be residing, if you renew your contract you will be charged rent for all summer months. Your apartment will not be held for you if you choose not to renew your contract to avoid paying rent during the summer.
If your co-tenant intends to remain a contract holder for the 2025-26 academic year, you will need to submit a co-tenant takeover request by March 6 at 4 pm. We will begin processing requests for Co-tenant Takeovers on Tuesday, March 21 at 12 pm. If approved, the new contract holder will need to renew their contract between March 11 - March 17. If you request a Co-tenant Takeover but do not renew your contract, the contract will end for your co-tenant/the new contract holder on June 30, 2025.
Co-tenant Takeovers must take effect on the first day of a month, and your co-tenant
must have been registered via our Co-tenant Addition and Removal Form for at least four months before they are eligible to take over the contract. Co-tenant
Takeovers are only allowed once per contract.
Yes, the Inter-Residence Housing Council (IRHC) represents all students who live on campus. Meetings are held at 6 pm on Monday nights in Wadsworth Hall, G17/19.
If you believe you have a documented disability and require a service or support animal as an accommodation, please contact Student Disability Services. Disability Services will notify Housing of all required accommodations. Disability Services will inform Housing of all necessary accommodations. Once approved by Disability Services, Residence Education and Housing Services will contact the student via their Michigan Tech email with an update on their housing assignment.
- Guests are permitted. Overnight guests are permitted for three (3) consecutive nights without registration. Any guest that stays longer than three (3) nights must be registered at Residence Education and Housing, 153 Wadsworth Hall, before 5:00 pm on the fourth (4) night.
- Guests are not permitted to stay fourteen (14) or more days in any apartment. Guests who stay fourteen (14) or more days, consecutively or not, are considered to be occupying the apartment. This is unapproved occupancy and it is prohibited.
- Breach of these provisions shall result in an additional $500 per month for any month during which this provision is at any time breached. The contract holder may have their contract terminated by the University and all apartment occupants may be required to move out immediately due to the contract holder's breach of contract.
- If you believe you have had a significant and unanticipated change in a medical, financial, or extenuating circumstance since the date you signed your contract, you can apply for a contract release.
- A contract release request does not guarantee a release of contract and financial obligations to the University. Contract release requests can be submitted at any time and are reviewed by a committee once per month at their scheduled meeting. A letter of explanation is required along with any additional documentation you can provide to support your request.
- There is a fee of one month's rent for all approved contract releases.
A $400.00 deposit is due upon acceptance of a contract. The deposit is refundable after the housing contract has ended as long as there are no outstanding damages or cleaning charges. The deposit will not be refunded if a contract holder fails to take possession of the apartment on the contract start date or fails to give thirty days' notice that they will not be attending the University.
Students living in Daniell Heights Apartments have the option of choosing to purchase a Residential or Commuter Meal Plan.
- We do not supply additional furnishings to apartments. You can add furnishings of your own to make the apartment feel like home.
- Each apartment is semi-furnished with the following items:
- One-bedroom apartments have a couch, one end table, two counter stools, one microwave, one full-size range, one full-size refrigerator, one vented hood, one bed, one chest of drawers, one desk, and one desk chair.
- Two-bedroom apartments have a couch, one chair, one end table, one dining room table, four chairs, one microwave, one full-size range, one full-size refrigerator, and one vented hood. Each bedroom will have one bed, one chest of drawers, one desk, and one chair.
If your co-tenant meets the following requirements, you can apply for a Co-Tenant Takeover. The following form will need to be filled out and submitted to housing.

Prohibition on Faculty/Staff Member Takeovers: Faculty or staff members who are co-tenants are not eligible to take over contracts from student Contract Holders. This is due to the Daniell Heights Contract, which prohibits faculty and staff from becoming Registered Tenants for student contracts. Faculty and staff members may take over contracts from other faculty and staff, provided they meet the requirements above.

Four-Month Registration Requirement: Registered Tenants must have lived in the apartment and been registered as Tenants for four months before they can take over the contract.

One Co-Tenant Takeover per Contract: Only contracts received directly from the university are eligible for a Co-Tenant Takeover. If you obtained your contract through a Co-Tenant Takeover, you cannot pass it on to another Co-Tenant.
Boots and shoes should be stored inside your apartments. No items can be stored in the commons areas, as that can clutter the area and make it unsafe to travel around. We recommend purchasing a shore tray and/or a rug to avoid dragging in salt/sand that is used on the roads in the winter season.
No. Washing and drying in the Daniell Heights is completely free. The laundry room is a shared common area.

After you apply for an apartment, you will be placed on a waiting list. As apartments become vacant, they are assigned on a first-come, first serve basis. Please apply early. Most apartments are assigned at the beginning and end of each academic semester. The Residence Education and Housing Services office will let you know when your apartment is ready. Generally, the fall semester has the longest waiting list.
Covered bicycle racks are located throughout the neighborhood. Be sure to bring your own lock for security.
Parking is assigned by building block upon registering your vehicle with Transportation Services. Parking for additional vehicles is also available on a very limited basis. You should contact Transportation Services for availability information if you'd like to keep more than one vehicle or a trailer.
