Welcome to the Peace Corps House, part of graduate student housing operated by Residence Education and Housing Services at Michigan Technological University.

Located at 212 East Street, Peace Corps House offers you the convenience of being close to campus for the ease of going to your graduate office, research lab, and classes. Utilities such as cable, internet, phone, heat, water, refuse, sewer, electricity, and laundry are all included in your monthly rent.

Peace Corps House sleeps five students with each student having their own private bedroom. The house is gender inclusive. Updated in summer 2013, the house offers new flooring throughout, an updated kitchen, dining room with table and chairs, updated bathrooms, and furnished living room with television. Entrance to the house is controlled by a tap card reader and each bedroom has a keyed locking door.

Furnishings - Bedroom

Each student has an extra long (80”) twin bed, chest of drawers, desk, desk chair, and  wastebasket. A wardrobe (bedroom 1) and closet (bedrooms 2, 3, 4, 5) are also provided.

Furnishings - Common Living Area

The common living areas provide:

  • living room - television, soft seating (one couch and two chairs, and two end tables with lamps)
  • dining area - table with chairs
  • kitchen - refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop, and electric oven

As part of a special partnership with the Peace Corps program, Residence Education and Housing Services will provide all kitchen necessities such as pots, pans, dishware, etc. The only thing you need to provide are your own groceries. We are understanding of the demands of the Peace Corps program, so the less you have to bring with you makes things easier for your departure, once you receive your assignment.

Internet 

Internet is included in your monthly rent and is provided by Michigan Tech Information Technology. The internet connection is a wireless connection only. You will be able to connect using your ISO username and password.

Cable

Cable is included in your monthly rent and is provided by Michigan Tech Information Technology. A television is provided to the house in the common living space for your convenience.

Phone

There is one phone provided in the common living area of the house.

Meal Plans

Meal plans are not required for students living in Peace Corps House. An optional Top Dog Express Meal Plan is available for Peace Corps House residents to purchase on the MyMichiganTech portal. If you are interested in exploring your on-campus meal options, please visit Dining Services.

Parking

The garage of the house is used by the University and is not available for storage or vehicles. Therefore, parking is not available at the house as it must be kept clear for University access to the garage. Parking permits are available in residential lots. Please visit Transportation Services located in the Administration Building Room 100 for more information.

House Description

212 East Street is a two story house with an additional basement. You enter the house on the first floor. There is a bedroom (10'8" x 13'1") immediately to the left, stairs directly ahead to the second floor, and a living room (12'11" x 17') to the right. When you pass through the living room in a counter clockwise direction, you will enter the kitchen (12'11" x 11'6"). You can exit the house from the kitchen, or continue counter clockwise to the dining room (15' x 11'2"). From the dining room, there is a bathroom (10'8" x 3"4") to the right and a second door to the first floor bedroom (10'6" x 10'6") on the left. There are also stairs to access the unfinished basement (26'10" x 26'10") which has on-site laundry machines.

From the main entrance, you can take the stairs to the second floor. There are four bedrooms (10'6" x 10'6"), (10'6" x 10'1"), (11'6" x 12'1"), (11'6" x 13'9") that share a bathroom (5'11" x 10'1") on the second floor.

Storage 

Storage is not available in the house during the summer months or at other times when the student does not have an active contract. However, during an active contract, limited storage is available in the house basement.
