Sensory-friendly events are designed to invite all members of our community into the magic of the event without sensory worries, including those on the autism spectrum, young children, individuals with sensory sensitivities, and first-time theatregoers.
Environmental modifications intended to create a relaxed atmosphere during a sensory-friendly event often include:
- Invitation for guests to feel comfortable moving within their seats, vocalizing, and migrating between the lobby and theatre as needed
- Intensity of lighting and sound effects reduced to prevent startling or loud sounds
- Reduced or eliminated strobe lighting and lighting that focuses on the audience
- Specially trained ushers prepared to support changes in seating throughout the show as needed for those with sensory sensitivities
- For events with a live stream available, a remote viewing area may be available for a reduced-intensity experience in the lobby
The following accommodations are a part of all events in the Rozsa’s Black Performance Hall:
- House lights over the audience remain dimmed throughout the event, rather than completely off
- Designated quiet and privacy spaces are available in the lobby
- Earplugs and a limited number of noise-reducing headphones are available at the Rozsa Box Office by request.
- Large print programs available at the Rozsa Box Office by request.
