- BS Chemistry 1977
Gary Krasicky graduated from Michigan Tech with high honors, earning a BS in Chemistry in 1977. That same day, he was commissioned as an Air Force second lieutenant and then attended the University of Michigan Medical School on a Health Professions Scholarship. He later took specialty training in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where he was recognized for his teaching and research accomplishments. Dr. Krasicky is cited in many articles in journal publications and is a contributing author of three book chapters. He served on the MTU Alumni Board of Managers from 1982 – 86.
Following training, he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, where he was the Chief of Nuclear Medicine at Malcolm Grow USAF Medical Center and was an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He continued his research under an NIH Grant as the Director of Clinical Thallium Imaging, studying Silent Myocardial Ischemia, with results presented at an international symposium in Milan.
Near the end of his 4-year military obligation, Krasicky was recruited by Fairfax Radiological Consultants (FRC) in Northern Virginia to establish a Nuclear Medicine Service in their subspecialty radiology practice. As Director, he developed a full-service department at Inova Fairfax Hospital, and outpatient services in two of their imaging facilities. While with FRC, he was the practice Radiation Safety Officer and was instrumental in the migration to digital imaging from film-screen technology as well as the networking of their practice. He served on their Board of Directors until his retirement in 2004.
Gary and his wife, Marcia, moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina in 2005, and enjoy golf, entertaining, and international travel. In retirement, he has taught computer applications courses at Sandhills Community College and served as the Junior Warden at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
