Ming-Ming Zhou
- MS Chemistry 1988
Ming-Ming Zhou, PhD is the Dr. Harold and Golden Lamport Professor and Chairman of the Department of Structural and Chemical Biology, and Co-Director of the Experimental Therapeutics Institute at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He is also a Professor of the Departments of Oncological Sciences, and Pharmacology and Systems Therapeutics at Mount Sinai. His research is directed at understanding the fundamental molecular mechanisms that govern cellular signal transduction and epigenetic regulation of gene transcription in human biology of health and disease by using combined structural/chemical biology and molecular/cellular biology approaches.
Dr. Zhou received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from East China University of Science and Technology (Shanghai, PRC) in 1984, a MS degree in Chemistry from Michigan Technological University in 1988, and a PhD degree in Chemistry from Purdue University in 1993. He joined the faculty at Mount Sinai in 1997 following his three-year postdoctoral study at Abbott Laboratories. He received the GlaxoSmithKline Drug Discovery Research Award in 2003 for his work in novel anti-HIV/AIDS therapy development to overcome the viral drug resistance.
Dr. Zhou serves on review panels for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation as well as several private research foundations. He is a Board Director for the New York Structural Biology Center. He has served as an academic advisor to over thirty PhD students and postdoctoral fellows during his tenure at Mount Sinai. Dr. Zhou has published research in the top-tier scientific journals including Nature, Nature Cell Biology, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Science SKTE and Molecular Cell. He is frequently invited to speak at national and international scientific conferences in epigenetics and gene regulation.
