Ziyong Cai

Coming to Michigan Technological University with a BS in Physics from Fudan University of China, Ziyong Cai earned an MS in Physics in 1988 and a PhD in Physics in 1990. After the completion of his postdoctoral work at Vanderbilt University (where he also earned an MBA in Finance), he held senior management positions in some of the top financial institutions.

Ziyong is the author and co-author of 14 publications, touching the areas of physics, economics, operation research, and medicine. He has held leadership positions in various industrial organizations including a board membership in the Analytics Council and Advisory Committee membership of Direct Marketing Association, membership of Verisk Claim Analytics Executive Council, and the chairman of Direct Marketing Analytics Journal. He has also been invited as a journal article reviewer and guest speaker by multiple institutions. In his more recent work, Ziyong led efforts of applying machine learning techniques to insurance industry at AIG, QBE, and currently at Z1 Consulting.

Ziyong lives in White Plains, NY with his wife, Dr. Ping Zhou. They have two adult daughters, Jill and Jinny. In their spare time, they enjoy traveling.
