Faculty-led programs are designed for Michigan Tech students to study abroad with other Michigan Tech students and take Michigan Tech courses taught by Michigan Tech professors.

Michigan Tech has several direct exchange partner relationships with international universities (see list below). Michigan Tech students attend one of those universities and pay Michigan Tech tuition. In return, that international university sends its students to Michigan Tech.
How It Works
Stay for a semester—or a full academic year. Your Michigan Tech tuition and fees cover costs at the host university.
You're responsible for:
- course registration
- visa entry requirements
You also have to arrange and cover costs for:
- housing
- travel and transportation
- living expenses
- health insurance

Spend a semester or academic year at a participating National Student Exchange university (over 170 to choose from!). Locations in 49 US states, 3 US territories, and 6 Canadian provinces.
Spend a spring semester in Cergy, France at the University of ENSEA in the French American Exchange (FAME) Program. This program is designed for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science students during their third-year spring semester.
European Project Semester (EPS) is designed to meet engineering degree senior design requirements with a mix of project-related courses and project organization/problem-based learning. All EPS programs are taught in English.

International Studies Abroad (ISA) and The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) have been serving study abroad students for more than 25 years. ISA (Europe, Latin America, and Africa) and TEAN (Asia and Pacific) offer study abroad programs , including international internships, research, Christian missions, and service-learning programs.
The Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU) is a study abroad program located on the shore of Lake Biwa in the City of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Since 1989, JCMU has been offering programs designed to build relationships between Japanese, Americans, and other nationalities through active learning and participation in language, culture, family life, and society. JCMU offers programs in language and culture, health and culture, environmental sciences, and teaching English in Japan. It also offers summer internships.
Semester at Sea sails around the world exploring 10-12 countries in a semester. Through in-country field programs and independent travel, students observe global issues firsthand while interacting with everyone from local citizens to world leaders. Semester at Sea is open to all majors. Courses are taught aboard the ship and inland.
The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) is a non-profit consortium of U.S. universities (including Michigan Tech) that collaborates to offer affordable, academic and authentic study abroad programs. There are abundant opportunities to immerse in the culture, history, and academics of other countries providing an unforgettable experience. Each program is designed to help you grow into an engaged citizen of the world -- no only through academic experiences, but also through field trips, internships, volunteering, and service learning.
Michigan Tech students are encouraged to create the future through applying their skills and knowledge. The Washington Experience program provides students with the opportunity to leverage their skills in our nation's capital and explore their passions through internships and seminars. Michigan Tech is partnering with The Washington Center (TWC) to provide structured Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters in Washington D.C.

- Next, connect with your academic advisor to discuss how study abroad may fit into your academic plan
- Schedule an appointment with the Manager of Study Away and Abroad to discuss your study abroad goals and interests

- First, sign in to Via TRM and create your traveler profile
- Next, browse travel programs to find your best matched programs and locations
- Select your study abroad program
- Submit your Michigan Tech study abroad application

- After you’ve submitted a Michigan Tech study abroad application on Via TRM, begin the study abroad course evaluation and planning process with the Manager of Study Away and Abroad Programs

- Search for scholarships
- Create a study abroad budget with your study abroad advisor and financial aid manager

- Your academic advisor will finalize your course planning
- Upload your completed study abroad course evaluation and planning form to your Via TRM account

- After your Michigan Tech study abroad application is approved, submit your study abroad program provider application online
- Once your application is approved you will register for your study abroad courses with the program

- Research your visa application requirements and schedule your visa application appointment
