New Students

As you prepare for your first year at Michigan Tech, we know that you have plenty of questions. This year Michigan Tech's Orientation Program will look different from our past Orientation programs.

In the past Michigan Tech's Orientation consisted of a week long program. Starting in this summer, 2025, Michigan Tech has divided the week long orientation into Summer Session 1 and Fall Session 2. Both sessions are required. If you have questions or concerns about either session, please contact success@mtu.edu.

Session 1 will be held in the summer with four one and a half days of orientation to choose from. Registration for these dates are now open. If you have not already registered and have paid your deposit, please go to your Husky Portal and register now.
The dates are:

  • June 22-23
  • June 26-27
  • July 13-14
  • July 17-18

Students need to choose only one of the four summer sessions. The Summer Session Orientation is when you will learn about the Essential Education program, spend time with advisors and faculty from your academic college, and start building your community at Michigan Tech.

Session 2 will be held in the fall from August 20-23, 2025. Orientation Week is designed to help you to feel at home on campus--you will build connections with your Orientation Team Leaders (OTL), learn about Tech Traditions, and be introduced to your new pack of fellow Huskies. You will also gain valuable insights to campus resources, academic expectations, and life at Tech, ensuring a smooth transition to your college career.
