Getting Here
Many students choose to drive to campus with their families or friends. Students arriving by car can be dropped off at the front entrance of Wadsworth Hall where you'll be greeted by our program staff and check-in.
Live-in participants who drive themselves to the program will receive details about parking passes and where to park when they arrive at the check-in station. You will not be permitted to drive while attending Summer Youth Programs, and you will be required to purchase a week-long parking pass ($20) at the front desk upon arrival. You will be asked to keep your keys in the Summer Youth Programs safe at the residence hall until the end of the program.

$150One-Way Bus Fare
We provide charter bus transportation to participants throughout the state of Michigan. Our buses are chaperoned and come equipped with bathrooms and movies to watch during the ride. This can be a great way for you to meet other students before arriving on campus.
Participants are picked up on Saturday evenings and travel through the night to get to campus on Sunday morning. Likewise, at the end of the week, students depart from campus on Friday evening and arrive home on Saturday morning.
Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, and participants are asked to register for the SYP Charter Bus using CampDoc. The one-way fare of $150 includes a $50 non-refundable deposit.

Houghton is serviced by Indian Trails/Greyhound, with stops on campus at the Memorial Union Building.
If you are arriving by Indian Trails or Greyhound bus, you will be picked up at the bus station. We will make these arrangements based on the arrival and departure times that we are provided. Please provide a copy of your bus itinerary to our office once arrangements have been made so we can plan accordingly.
Visit the Indian Trails website or call 800-292-3831 for route scheduling and more information.
Our local airport, Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX), is located just fifteen minutes from campus. The airport is served by United Airlines, and all flights to/from CMX connect through Chicago O'Hare (ORD).
We urge all parents and legal guardians to review United Airlines’ unaccompanied minor policy prior to booking flights. United Airlines' program can only accept unaccompanied minors on non-stop flights. So any students 14 or younger would have to be dropped off in Chicago. The option to connect from a different city through Chicago to come to Houghton, MI no longer exists.
If traveling unaccompanied and arriving/departing by plane, participants may use the Summer Youth Programs shuttle service operated by SYP staff for an additional fee of $10 each way. We will make arrangements for the shuttle based on the arrival and departure times that you provide. Please provide a copy of your flight itinerary to our office once arrangements have been made so we can plan accordingly.
Visit United Airlines or call 800-864-8331 for ticketing information.
