Biography
James Cortright holds a bachelor's degree in music from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI and a 2 year certificate in audio technology from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, MI. Before joining the music lesson faculty at Michigan Tech, he taught percussion and managed audio electronics for the band programs of Carmel High School in Indianapolis, IN (2012-2015) and Reeths-Puffer High School in Muskegon, MI (2016-2020) as well as maintaining a large private lesson studio teaching percussion, piano, and guitar. In marching percussion ensembles, he performed with Madison Scouts Drum Corps in Bloomington, IN (2011-2013) and Rhythm X winter percussion ensemble in Dayton, OH (2013, 2014), then he taught percussion and managed audio electronics at Music City Drum Corps in Nashville, TN (2015), NorthCoast Academy winter percussion ensemble in Detroit, MI (2015-2016), and Genesis winter percussion ensemble in Grand Rapids, MI (2016-2020). James loves the UP and enjoys spending time exploring nature around the Keweenaw with his dog.
