The Dean of Students Office at Michigan Tech is committed to fostering a supportive environment where students are listened to, understood, and appreciated. When students have a complaint or concern about their campus experience, whether it is in or out of the classroom, the Dean of Students Office provides help and guidance in resolving the issue.
Students who wish to report a complaint or concern are encouraged to complete the Concern/Complaint Submission Form. Someone from the Dean of Students Office will respond in a timely manner. Reports received will be handled impartially and with fairness to all parties involved. Depending on the nature of the complaint or concern, it may be directed to the appropriate campus department or office.
The Ombuds Office is another campus resource available to students in order to resolve informal conflicts. This office operates confidentially and is available to supplement more formal procedures.
Please keep in mind that complaints that involve faculty actions or classroom occurrences are handled under the Academic Grievance Policy.
Student complaints that are related to academic integrity or alleged discrimination and/or harassment are not covered under this procedure. In such cases, students are directed to the Scientific Misconduct Policy, the Academic Integrity Policy, or to the Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance and Title IX to proceed with their concerns. Likewise, complaints about University policy and procedure should be directed to the responsible office or unit.
Students who are currently enrolled in a graduate program or who have been enrolled in a graduate program within the preceding year are directed to the Graduate School Grievance Policy.
Please see Complaint Resolution for Online Learning for additional information specific to online students.
