The Office of Foundation Relations connects private professional foundations with faculty to advance research, outreach, and creative expression.
Our Services
We connect private professional foundations with faculty by:
- Partnering with faculty and administrators across all of Michigan Tech to develop strategic and compelling foundation grant proposals
- Conducting custom prospect research for faculty around discrete, innovative projects
- Disseminating a biweekly funding opportunity newsletter- join the Listsearve
- Providing a list of current and anticipated foundation funding opportunities
- Working with faculty to plan foundation visits and advise on communications with foundations
PLEASE NOTE: A number of foundations prefer or require that communication is routed through the Office of Foundation Relations and will not appreciate unsolicited attempts at contact.
When to Contact Us
The sooner you let us know about your endeavor, the more support we can provide in navigating both foundation and internal processes. The timeline for each project will vary based on project scope, funder timeline, and other variables.
How to Work With Us
The Office of Foundation Relations coordinates closely with the Sponsored Programs Office (SPO) and the following process must be taken by faculty and staff prior to grant submission.
- Meet with the Director for Foundation Relations- email foundations@mtu.edu for an appointment
Discuss the proposed foundation, timeline, proposal, and application needs.
- Fill out and submit the Notice of Intent to Submit a Proposal form to SPO
Submit the form no more than 3 weeks in advance of your proposal submission deadline.
- Submit your proposal with SPO's approval. Notify the OFR of successful submission.
- If your submission is successful, notify the OFR via foundations@mtu.edu, and work with the Director for Foundation Relations to determine next steps for appropriate communication, reporting, and stewardship
