Acknowledgment
Michigan Technological University acknowledges that the Certification and Agreement for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF III) were signed and submitted to the Department of Education. Michigan Tech ensures that at least $6,187,436 of the HEERF III funds will be distributed directly to students as emergency grants.

Estimated Total Number of Students Eligible to Receive HEERF III Funding
The estimated number of Michigan Technological University students eligible to receive HEERF funding is 7,004. (This is the estimated number of eligible MTU students that were actively enrolled in at least one course as of September 20, 2021.)
Total Number of Students Who Have Received Grants
As of December 31, 2021, the number of unique students who have received these grants is 7,005. The process (described below) for distributing funds was released during the week of September 13, 2021, and was shared with eligible students via Michigan Tech email.
Determination of Eligible Students and Amount of Award
Per guidance from the Department of Education, Michigan Tech prioritized the awarding of HEERF III funds to domestic undergraduate students and students with exceptional financial need. All eligible students were notified on September 13, 2021, that they would receive a one-time emergency grant of $850. With these grants, a majority of the student HEERF III funds, $5,953,400, was distributed during the week of September 20, 2021. The remaining balance will be used for additional emergency grants for students with exceptional financial need and/or extenuating circumstances.
Instructions and Guidance to Students
On September 13, 2021, notice was shared with eligible students regarding the process for the distribution of the HEERF III grants. Eligible students were asked to set up and utilize direct deposit to allow the payment to be sent to them quickly and securely. Where direct deposit was not possible, checks were issued to students.
