Manufacturing—Minor

A minor in manufacturing provides students a broad exposure to the skills necessary for the design, set-up and troubleshooting of automated machinery for assembly, inspection, and testing and/or robotic systems used to improve efficiency and safety.

This minor, offered through the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, focuses on providing students a background for careers in manufacturing. The coursework includes topics related to machining processes, design with plastics, micromanufacturing, metrology, metal casting, robotics, and mechatronics. Though this minor is most suitable for undergraduate mechanical engineering majors, it has been designed to accommodate other engineering majors and students.

A student interested in adding the Manufacturing minor should first express their interest to the minor advisor and then use the curriculum change portlet in MyMichiganTech to request the minor. See the Registrar’s Office website for more information.
