Responsible Conduct of Research Training
Michigan Tech offers several online courses in Responsible Conduct of Research through citiprogram.org, including Advanced RCR Training for graduate students and Undergraduate Researcher RCR Training for undergraduate research assistants. These courses provide high-quality, peer-reviewed educational resources designed to raise awareness of the responsible conduct of research and include instructional modules, case studies, and quizzes. To access these courses, follow the information below.
Creating a Citiprogram Account
To begin, go to the citiprogram website and click on the register link at the top of the page or the register button under “Create an account.” You will be guided through each of the seven steps in the registration process. If you have already taken courses through the CITI training program and are affiliated with Michigan Tech, you do not need to re-register.
Enrolling in CITI Online Courses
After creating an account, log in at citiprogram.org using your CITI username and password.
From the Main Welcome page, click on the “View Courses” box for Michigan Technological University. The scroll down to “Learner Tools for Michigan Technological University”, and click "Add a Course."
Select curriculum
The CITI training courses offered by Michigan Tech are grouped into five categories:
- Human Subjects Research
- Responsible Conduct of Research
- Animal Research
- Biosafety/Biosecurity
- Conflicts of Interest/Export Control
Scroll down to the category for Responsible Conduct of Research where several online RCR training courses are listed:
- Advanced RCR Training (online graduate students only)
- Undergraduate Researcher, RCR Training (for undergraduate research assistants)
Select the course you wish to enroll in based on the requirements of the degree you are seeking or the research you are conducting. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click submit. The selected course will be added to your list of courses when you return to your welcome page.
Completing your Online Training
Each course contains several modules that can be completed at your own pace. You may want to complete the training in several sessions. The program remembers which modules you have completed. Returning to the site requires signing in with your username and password.
Certifying Completion
After completing RCR training, students can download a completion certificate from citiprogram.org. It is recommended that all students download and save a copy of the completion certificate for their personal records.
Undergraduate research assistants should share a copy of the completion certificate with their research supervisor.
For graduate students completing online RCR training, the research integrity office will automatically receive a copy of the completion certificate and mark this training requirement as completed in the Degree Progress Checklist within 5 -10 business days after the course is completed.
