On-Campus Housing Availability for 2025-2026

It’s time for students to start exploring their housing opportunities for the next academic year. As you begin to explore housing options, we are preparing for a sunny outlook of new on campus possibilities for you to consider for your Husky Home next year! There’s still a few months until the Housing Contract Renewal process begins for the 2025-2026 academic year, but we want to make sure you have a clear forecast of things to consider so you can properly prepare.

Whether you are a current first year student eager to try a new living experience or will be a rising Senior, we invite all students to explore the possibilities in making us your Husky home. In Fall 2025, Residential Living is excited to offer the following new opportunities that will enhance the living experience for our upperclass/returning student population (if you are a prospective student, check out our New and Transfer Student Housing Contract Process webpage):

  • Suite style living coming to campus for returning students: We are excited that next Fall, returning students will have a new living experience they can explore in East Hall, our brand new suite-style residence hall facility. This addition features 4 person suites in single and double room configurations with bathrooms built into the living unit and air conditioning.
  • Deluxe double rooms being offered in McNair: New for Fall 2025 housing will be converting the triple sized rooms in East McNair into Deluxe Doubles, giving returning students an opportunity to live in a double with a little more flexibility in space
  • Wadsworth dining gets a full makeover (renovation) for Fall 2025:  The new dining hall is focused on bringing the culinary experience closer to students throughout the dining hall and will offer students a large variety of seating configurations.
On-campus housing forecast: Sunny. Guaranteed housing for first year students. Elimination of 3-person occupancy spaces. New 512 bed residence hall. New options living community. New 24/7 Grab & Go Convenience store. Updated Dining halls in McNair and Wadsworth Halls.

Your Preparation Checklist

Whether you are planning to live on campus or not, we want to make sure you have the strategies necessary so you can find the housing experience right for you.

  1. Before you sign any housing agreement, talk to Financial Aid first so you understand the impacts to your financial aid package. Many students have merit scholarships that require two years of on campus residency (sometimes more), so make sure you consult with Financial Aid and your support pack before entering into any lease/contract. Signing a non-campus housing contract does not release you from scholarship requirements or a campus Housing contract. A housing contract is a serious financial commitment, so we encourage you to weigh all of your options before signing an agreement.

  2. Don’t wait until Spring semester, start exploring our communities now! All of our halls have a distinct exciting character to them that student’s love, so go out and explore them! Talk with residents in the building and do some window shopping to find a community that could be right for you.

  3. Start talking to possible roommates now. If you want to live in East hall or Hillside, you’ll need a group of 4 to secure a space! The rule is to claim a space, you must fill a space, so whether you want a double room or try for one of our spaces in Hillside and East, start connecting with possible roommates and collaborate on what housing experience you want as a group.

  4. Keep an eye out on your MTU email for announcements about the housing contract renewal process. We plan on starting to communicate more information in late Fall about our contract renewal process that launches in early Spring.

  5. Don’t count on word of mouth of outdated housing programs. With ample residence hall housing available, programs offered in the previous year to ease housing demand have been retired. Housing will NOT offer a mass merit waiver process, Flex housing, and contract release programs. Make sure you are careful and have accurate information as you consider your options.

  6. If you have questions, contact Housing! Please reach out to our Housing team (housing@mtu.edu) or 906.487.2682 if you have any questions or need guidance. We’re here to help.

We are excited to offer a variety of experiences for students to consider for their next Husky Home. We encourage you to visit all of our living communities during Fall semester and visit our residence halls and East hall website so you can get a feel for what you might want for your second year commitment. When the time comes for you to begin planning your housing for 2025-2026, know that we will have a place for you when we start our room selection process in January 2025.
