Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.

You can take Mental Health First Aid online or in-person.

  • In person trainings are offered on Michigan Tech's campus a few times each year with limited availability per class. Watch Tech Today for class offerings and reach out to counseling@mtu.edu to inquire about upcoming offerings. There is a $50 participation fee for this training.
  • Online classes can be found year-round on Mental Health First Aid's website(filter your search for open, blended course with virtual-led instruction, and adult). Participation fees vary.
