Michigan Technological University encourages students enrolled in Early College programs to apply for admission to any of our bachelor degree programs. We recognize Early College is a great way to save on education costs and jump start your college experience. Help make the process go smoothly and follow our application best practices.
Application Process
Students in an Early College program should apply to Michigan Tech during the start of their last year in the program, often called a fifth or 13th year. Applying by November 1 gives you priority consideration for admissions, financial aid, and scholarships.
Students are identified as first-year students for the purpose of admission and scholarship consideration.
Have a specific major in mind when you start your Early College program? Check out our transfer guides and reach out to the admissions staff for advice on which courses will be the most beneficial for you to take. You can contact the Admissions Office at 888-688-1885 or email mtu4u@mtu.edu.
What do I need to submit when I apply?
- Completed application
- Official high school transcript
- Official SAT or ACT test scores*
Transcripts must come directly from the school(s) or through a transcript service such as Parchment.
*No test scores are required for fall 2025 applicants; homeschool students or students with a GPA below a 3.0 may be asked to provide official test scores or other documentation.
While not required for an admission decision, an official college transcript is required in order to evaluate college courses for transfer credit.
Additional application materials may be required for some majors.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Students enrolled in an Early College program are considered first-time degree-seeking students and are eligible for the same scholarships as those enrolled in a traditional four-year high school curriculum. Students are automatically considered for most merit-based scholarships upon acceptance. Early/Middle college students should apply for admission, scholarships, and financial aid during their final (fifth or 13th) year of the early college program.
Students who have earned 60 or more credits, including transfer credit, credit earned through early college or dual enrollment, or AP, IB, or CLEP will be charged upper-division tuition. See the Cost of Attendance for details.
Transfer Credit
Transfer credit is available for most classes taken at another institution when a grade of C or better was earned. Transfer credits can be used to satisfy our general education requirements and specific degree requirements.
- Transfer equivalency listings provide a listing of courses that have transferred from many different schools. Other courses may transfer. Contact Transfer Services at transfer@mtu.edu or 906-487-3323 with questions.
