Find Your Fit
We offer more than 120 majors within our five colleges: College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Computing, College of Sciences and Arts, and the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science.
There is no minimum credit requirement to be considered a transfer student. If you take at least one course following high school graduation, you are considered a transfer student. (*With the exception of taking classes the summer after graduation.)
Academically, the colleges require either a minimum 2.5/2.75 cumulative college GPA. The GPA is major-specific. Admission decisions will be based on your cumulative college GPA and full academic profile.

Transfer students should have their FAFSA sent to Michigan Tech for full consideration for aid.
Merit-based scholarships specifically for transfer students (automatic consideration) include: Michigan Tech Transfer Scholarship (Michigan Residents) and the National Transfer Scholarship (non-Michigan Residents)

Transfer students are not required to live on campus.
On-campus housing is guaranteed for all incoming transfer students who complete the housing contract before June 1. For students starting in the spring semester, students can request to be put on the waitlist. Late requests may not be accepted.
If you plan to live off-campus, plan early. Current students secure their housing in the fall for the following year.

Complete the Transfer Application and request that your official high school and college transcripts be sent to the Michigan Tech Admissions Office.
Note the recommended dates and deadlines for each semester and be sure to start the process with plenty of time.
A Regional Admissions Manager(RAM) will be happy to offer more assistance with transfer information.

Use your Husky Portal for status updates on application checklist items and admissions updates.
Your decision will be available in the Husky Portal, and it's important to view it in the portal. A copy will also be sent by mail.
Connect with your Regional Admissions Manager (RAM) for assistance along the way. They will give you the help you need or connect you with the right person on campus.
I'm admitted! Now what?
Once Admissions is finished with your transcript(s), they will forward them to Transfer Services for your credit evaluation. If there are any courses not already in the system, they will contact you by email and ask that you provide the syllabi for those courses. Once your syllabi are received, Transfer Services will collaborate with the academic department to determine the equivalency. The results will be uploaded to Banweb.
Your academic advisor is another resource to assist with any questions you have about your credit evaluation and course equivalences once it has been completed through Transfer Services.
If you are awarded financial assistance as a result of completing the FAFSA, you will receive a financial aid package that includes the following:
- Amount of merit- and need-based aid awarded
- Estimated annual cost of attendance for the upcoming school year
- Financial aid deadlines and information
- Information about how to accept your awards and the terms and conditions of your financial aid.
Set up your Mobile Recovery Number within the Husky Portal. Then you can set up your Michigan Tech SSO (username and password).
Your Michigan Tech SSO is used for many things, including:
- MTU email
- Husky House
- Banweb
- Financial Aid Portal
- Canvas
If you have questions about courses specific to your Michigan Tech major, please contact your academic advisor.
Finalize Your Enrollment
Your $200 non-refundable deposit guarantees your spot in the upcoming class and provides access to the on-campus housing application.
Transfer students are not required to live on campus. However, we have a place for you if you meet the deadline. We can provide you on-campus housing (students starting in the fall) if you complete your contract no later than June 1.
The Registrar’s Office will prepare the class schedule for students with less than 30 credits. Students with 30 or more credits can register themselves once the deposit has been paid. Students should work with their academic advisor.
Transfer students are automatically enrolled in our Orientation Week. This is highly recommended. If students are unable to attend, they may opt-out and attend only the transfer orientation.
