9.5.1 William G. Jackson Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)
The William G. Jackson Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is devoted to the improvement of the University's educational processes. The CTL participates in the orientation of faculty, teaching assistants, and instructional staff and is dedicated to continued instructional development. The International Graduate Student Communication and Culture Center (IGSC3), administered through the CTL, provides language and cultural acclimation for international teaching assistants. For all faculty, the CTL offers an on-going series of workshops designed to improve instructional programs and practices and individual consultations for those seeking to improve teaching effectiveness. The CTL annually recognizes faculty with exceptional teaching records through the Michigan Tech Academy of Teaching Excellence and the Distinguished Teaching Awards.
The eLearning Group, part of the CTL, specializes in instructional design consultation and assistance with Canvas, Panopto, iClickers, and other technological teaching tools. This group provides support for courses anywhere on the spectrum from fully online to fully face-to-face. Services include walk-in hours in Library room 219, scheduled individual consultations, and second-level support through the main IT help desk.
