Grant Writing Guide

The funding process with foundations can look very different depending on the opportunities that you are interested in pursuing. Every foundation has different application requirements, processes, timelines, and preferences. The resources found below are designed to help Michigan Tech's faculty, staff, research administrators, students, and friends navigate the foundation funding process.

If you don't see what you're looking for, please review the FAQ's or contact our office.

Restricted Foundations - Prior to writing a proposal, please review our list of restricted foundations. These relationships are managed by the Office of Foundation Relations and we will be best able to help you navigate the funding process with each entity on the list.

Note that the verbiage of "Restricted" does not mean that you are barred from pursuing funding. It simply means that the organization had requested that all potential grantee communications be routed through the Foundation Relations Office.

Proposal Resources - Writing for foundations differs from writing for other types of funding. Please review the guides available to you, and find links to supporting materials that you will need for your grant application.

Grant Management - Once an award is made, our office can help you receive the funding into the Michigan Tech Fund and set up/route to your designated index account. We can help you keep track of reporting deadlines, and assist with planning foundation stewardship initiatives to best maintain lasting partnerships. Please review our Foundation Relations Processes to determine your next steps or learn what to expect in case of a successful grant application.
