Coarse Z Axis Knob
The Z-axis knob is used to make coarse changes in the distance between the specimen surface and the objective lens. This distance is known as the working distance.
Stage Lock Switch
Prevents stage movement. Use at 50,000 magnification and above to reduce specimen movement. It should be turned OFF before a Z or Tilt motion is made on the stage.
Stage Front Cover
Attached to the specimen stage. Can be drawn out when specimen exchange through the specimen exchange chamber is not available.
Rotation Control
The rotation knob allows for 360 degree rotation of the specimen around a vertical axis.
Tilt Control
Permits tilting of the specimen towards the secondary electron detector, which produces a better signal.
X and Y Stage Windows
Shows the stage position in the X and Y directions on the X- and Y-axis micrometer knobs. The window reveals the stage drive motors for the automation system. These move the stage automatically when the trackball is used.
Y Stage Control Knob
The Y-axis stage translation provides for specimen translation in the Y-direction as viewed from the computer monitor.
X Stage Control Knob
The X-axis stage translation provides for specimen translation in the X-direction as viewed from the computer monitor.
