Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP)

Frequency is every three years. Data is available from the following years: 1993, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2015.

The CIRP is sponsored by the Higher Education Research Institute, HERI, and surveys first year students. It covers a wide range of student characteristics including parental income and education, ethnicity, and other demographic items; financial aid; secondary school achievement and activities; educational and career plans; and values, attitudes, beliefs, and self‐concept.

Core Drug and Alcohol Survey (CORE)

Frequency is every three years. Data is available for the following years: 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Developed by the US Department of Education and administered by the Core Institute at Southern Illinois at Carbondale this survey is used by universities and colleges to determine the extent of substance use and abuse on their campuses. Topics range from students’ attitudes towards drugs and alcohol to their own use and consequences of use. Staff can determine the extent of substance use and abuse on campuses nationwide.

Greek Experience Survey

Frequency is every three years, with the next scheduled for Fall semester, 2013. Data is available for 2007 and 2010.

This survey is coordinated by the Center for the Study of the College Fraternity and the Student Leadership and Involvement Office administers it on campus. The survey measures factors influencing chapter and Greek community support of intellectual and leadership development, values integration, and positive relationships.

National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

Frequency is every three years. Data is available for 2001, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2015. Only the most recent data is available online.

Michigan Tech joins more than 1,200 other intuitions who have participated in this national survey sponsored by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching which provides us with information about how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college. This information is used to improve policies and procedures for students.

Student Satisfaction Survey 

The Student Satisfaction Survey is an internally developed instrument administered every two years. This survey is intended to measure satisfaction and have students provide feedback on their undergraduate and graduate student experience at Michigan Tech.

Your First College Year (YFCY)

Frequency is every three years. Data is available for the following years: 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013.

YFCY is also sponsored by the Higher Education Research Institute, HERI and was the first national survey designed specifically to assess the academic and personal development of students over the first year of college. YFCY enables institutions to identify features of the first year that encourage student learning, involvement, satisfaction, retention and success, thereby enhancing first‐year programs and retention strategies at campuses across the country.
